Year 2 Class Teacher: Mr D Easton

Welcome to Rowan Class
Welcome to Rowan Class at Rosherville Church of England School. We are looking forward to a wonderful year of learning, growing and discovering together.
Our Christian vision, The Marvellous Mustard Seed, reminds us that from small beginnings, great things can grow. Throughout the year, we will encourage our children to demonstrate our three Christian values: Courage, by trying new things and persevering; Wisdom, by making thoughtful choices and using our knowledge; and Compassion, by showing kindness and caring for others.
Developing our skills throughout Year 2
Year 2 is an important year for developing the knowledge, skills and independence needed for the next stage of learning. We will work hard to become times-table experts, developing fluency with our 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
Reading will remain a key priority. We will continue developing our phonics through Little Wandle, before progressing towards EdShed and introducing Accelerated Reader (AR). Our aim is to develop confident, fluent readers who enjoy reading for both pleasure and purpose.
Curriculum
This term, PE will take place outdoors on Mondays and indoors on Thursdays. Please ensure children bring the appropriate PE kit on these days.
We look forward to watching Rowan Class grow in confidence, knowledge and independence as they prepare to flourish in Year 3.
Timetable
Our timetable can be downloaded below. Here, parents and pupils have the opportunity to view the class schedule to see the day-to-day routine including the range of curriculum that is covered. We have found that children with SEND have responded well to visually seeing the structure of the day ahead.

Home Learning
Learning Beyond the Classroom
We believe some of the best learning happens beyond the classroom. Throughout the year, we will enjoy local trips, walks, practical experiences and visits from special guests to bring our curriculum to life. We will explore Rosherville, Gravesend and the surrounding area, strengthening our understanding of local history, geography and our community.
Homework
Homework will provide opportunities to practise and reinforce learning from school. This will include regular reading, times-table practice, spelling and fun activities linked to our wider curriculum. We encourage families to make homework positive and enjoyable while helping children develop good learning habits and independence.
