Year 4 Class Teacher: Mrs S Henriksen
I am absolutely delighted to be teaching Year 4 this year! It’s such an exciting stage in primary school, where children grow in independence, curiosity and confidence. We have a fantastic year ahead filled with rich learning experiences, new challenges and lots of opportunities to explore, discover and grow.
Welcome to Sycamore Class (Year 4)
Throughout the year, the children will be taught all subjects from the National Curriculum. We have lots of exciting learning experiences planned for Sycamore Class. One of the highlights will be an educational visit where pupils will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of our curriculum through hands-on exhibits and interactive learning experiences.
Developing Independence and Responsibility
Year 4 is an important year for developing children’s independence and preparing them for the increased responsibility that comes with upper Key Stage 2.
Children will have the opportunity to take on a range of classroom responsibilities, such as book monitors, line leaders and technology assistants. Class jobs will rotate each term so that every child has the opportunity to contribute to our classroom community, develop leadership and organisational skills, and take pride in their role.
Curriculum
PE and Swimming
PE is taught every Monday and Thursday.
On PE days, children should come to school wearing their full school PE kit.
During Terms 5 and 6, PE will include swimming. Further information about swimming arrangements, including dates and what your child will need to bring, will be shared with families nearer the time.
Home Learning
We place a strong emphasis on the importance of home learning in Year 4. Regular practice at home helps reinforce the skills and knowledge children are developing in school, while also building confidence, independence and positive study habits.

Times tables
Regular reading and secure times-table knowledge will be particularly important as the children progress through Year 4 and prepare for the challenges of upper Key Stage 2.
Working Together
A strong partnership between home and school is an important part of helping children thrive. We encourage families to talk to their children about their learning, celebrate their achievements and support them in developing positive routines and increasing independence.
Together, we can help every child to develop their Compassion, Wisdom and Courage, while encouraging them to become confident, independent and enthusiastic learners.
