Class Information
Year 3 Class Teacher: Mrs A Kaur

Welcome to Birch Class (Year 3)
I am delighted to welcome our wonderful Year 3 children and their families to what promises to be an exciting year of learning, discovery and growth.
Our class is named after the birch tree, a tree that represents new beginnings, resilience and growth. These qualities are particularly meaningful as our children begin an important new stage of their primary education. As a class, we will be guided by our school values of Wisdom, Courage and Compassion. We will encourage children to make wise choices, have the courage to embrace challenges and show compassion by caring for themselves, one another and the wider community.
This year, I would like every child to think of themselves as a mustard seed. Although a mustard seed is tiny, with the right care, patience and nurturing, it can grow into something strong and remarkable
Curriculum
In Year 3, children will be taught all the main subjects from the National Curriculum, including Maths, Guided Reading, Science, RE and all other foundation subjects and this learning will be further consolidated with school trips taking place across the year. We will also develop independence through classroom responsibilities such as book monitors, resource monitors and technology assistants. These roles will rotate each term so that every child has the opportunity to contribute, develop leadership and organisational skills, and take pride in their responsibilities.
I place great importance on home learning, particularly homework, reading, spelling and times tables (2s,5s and 10s moving to 3s, 4s and 8s). Regular practice helps reinforce key skills, build confidence and develop independence and positive study habits. At Rosherville, we Read Every Day, Talk Every Day’ mind we ask families to support children in reading at least three times each week and signing their reading records.
PE
PE will take place on Mondays and Thursdays. Monday will be outdoors and Thursday indoors, with children wearing their PE kits to school. In Terms 5 and 6, children will also swim.

Timetable
Our timetable can be downloaded below. Here, parents and pupils have the opportunity to view the class schedule to see the day-to-day routine including the range of curriculum that is covered. We have found that children with SEND have responded well to visually seeing the structure of the day ahead.
