Year 6 – Oak Class

Class Information

Year 6 Class Teacher: Mrs S Burrha & Mrs R Hicks

We are Oak Class, named after one of the tallest and strongest native trees in the UK. As the oldest pupils in the school, our Year 6 children are role models who lead by example, demonstrating our Christian values of Compassion, Courage and Wisdom every day. They champion our school vision of the mustard seed, showing that even small acts of kindness, faith and determination can grow into something truly remarkable.

Throughout the year, they take on positions of responsibility, inspire the younger children and help our whole school community to flourish as they prepare for the exciting journey to secondary school. This is an exciting and important year as we prepare the children for the transition to secondary school while providing them with memorable learning experiences.

Throughout the year, the children will enrich their learning through a range of exciting educational visits, including the Imperial War Museum, the Natural History Museum, and a visit to a synagogue to support their Religious Education learning. One of the highlights of the year is our PGL residential, where children develop confidence, resilience, teamwork and independence through a variety of outdoor activities.

PE takes place every Monday and Thursday and children should come to school wearing their full PE kit on these days. During Terms 1 and 2, children will have swimming lessons on Thursday afternoons, so they should come to school prepared with their swimming kit.

To help develop good organisational skills and independence in preparation for secondary school, English and Maths homework will be set every Friday and should be completed and returned by the following Friday.

We look forward to a fantastic year of learning, growth and unforgettable experiences as the children prepare for the next stage of their education.
