Welcome to Dr. Seuss Class in EYFS

We are so excited to welcome your child into Dr Seuss Class and into Rosherville for their first year at school. It is going to be a fantastic year!

At Rosherville, we learn through Child Initiated which allows your child to lead their learning through play in our classroom and outside area. To support with their outside learning please provide named wellie boots and a waterproof coat which can stay in school. Please ensure that your child’s belongings (including uniform, PE kit, coats, bags, hats etc.) are named and that your child brings their school bookbag and a named water bottle to school with them every day.

Phonics is taught daily using the structure of the systematic synthetic programme ‘Little Wandle Letters & Sounds’. Children also participate in Reading Practice Sessions with a teacher. The books the children will be reading in these sessions are the Big Cat Books. These books are carefully matched to the child’s current reading level. The children will read the same book three times a week at school, each session will focus on different reading skills. At the end of the week the books are sent home where the children can practise and celebrate their reading with their families. Below you will find some useful links and documents to support your child’s learning at home. Your child will also bring home a picture book which can be read to them and they can retell using the pictures. Please ensure you record in the reading record when you have read with your child.

PE is on Thursdays, please send your child into school wearing their PE kit – their house coloured t-shirt, with dark blue or black shorts or joggers and trainers.

Reading

At Rosherville, we take part in ‘RED TED’. This stands for Read Every Day, Talk Every Day. It aims to encourage children to enjoy sharing a book and reading at home as much as possible.

Every child has a reading record. Each time you read at home with your child, hear them read or witness them reading independently, please sign your child’s reading record to show this.

  • Reading record signed = child earns 1 point
  • Each child can earn a maximum of 3 points per week
  • We want every child to show that they have read at least 3 times a week (3 points)

On Friday, the reading records will be checked. Every child’s points will be recorded and teachers will count every child who has read 3 TIMES that week. Teachers will share their class score and the class with the highest score will be the winners for the week and will keep the RED TED bear and trophy in their classroom.

Timetable

Our timetable can be downloaded below. Here, parents and pupils have the opportunity to view the class schedule to see the day-to-day routine including the range of curriculum that is covered. We have found that children with SEND have responded well to visually seeing the structure of the day ahead.
