The Future of the Swanscombe Peninsula

The Future of the Swanscombe Peninsula

The Swanscombe Peninsula is a unique and special place. It contains some of the oldest archaeological remains in the UK, it is a busy industrial area, and it provides important habitats for wildlife.
You may have heard about the previous plans for the London Resort theme park on the peninsula in the past. These plans have been halted and the company behind them has been closed. Since then, Swanscombe Peninsula has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) under the Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981). The SSSI designation is a legal conservation status used in England to protect areas that have important wildlife (such as rare or threatened species, important habitats etc.) or important geology (such as rock formations, fossils or landform features of scientific value).
As part of ongoing work to shape the future of the peninsula, the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation (EDC) visited Rosherville C of E Academy to learn how our pupils, families, and the wider community currently use the area, what they value about it, and what they would like to see improved. This partnership highlights how our school is working closely with the local community and key organisations to ensure the Swanscombe Peninsula is protected, respected, and thoughtfully developed for future generations.
